BEFORE YOU GO!
6/9/2026. The lower section of the Betsie River - downstream from Grace Road is typically advertised as a "low intensity" float with slower water the closer you traverse toward Betsie Lake/Elberta.

After the April flooding and severe weather - this section - along with several other up-steam sections - has acquired some obstacles (undercurrents, sweepers & strainers) and is a bit more challenging. Paddlers are strongly encouraged to scope out their entire float section BEFORE beginning their paddle. Check in with local resources or scan social media conversations.

The Betsie River is a Michigan designated Natural River. There are limited structures and access points, including access for rescue personnel. The lower section is more remote than the upper portions and cellular signal has been know to be spotty .

Emergency services have responded to multiple calls already this year for Betise River water rescue, in additions to the ones that self rescued or were assisted by other paddlers.

It is not the "same" Betsie River and we ask that you take the necessary cautions, consider a float plan, know your skill level, and let somebody know your intentions before setting out.

🐦💛 **A Sure Sign of Spring at Betsie River Canoes & Campground** 💛🐦

Our little campground family just got a little bigger!

This robin chose to build her nest right here at the campground, and her hungry babies are growing fast. Between the birds singing, the trees greening up, and the warmer temperatures finally arriving, it's starting to feel like summer is just around the corner.
