We recently learned more interesting history about Morris McGawn, the man who commissioned Ashmoor (Three Oaks Inn) back in 1905. Morris McGawn was a community leader here in Three Oaks as well as Berrien County where he served on the road commission. Back home in Three Oaks, Mr. McGawn was one of the original partners who charted "The Bank of Three Oaks" along with being the Corporate Secretary to the E.K. Featherbone Corporation. Camp Madron, Buchanan, Michigan established in the 1920's as a summer camp for the Boy Scouts of America. A few years later, about 1930, the camp suffered a devastating fire that completely destroyed their clubhouse. Morris McGawn is noted to have funded a part of the new clubhouse the following year in 1931. The Boy Scouts last use of the camp was the summer of 1976 when the property was sold. Today, the clubhouse still stands and serves as the recreation hall for the private condominium community developed in the late 1990's and still bears the original name: Camp Madron.
