Hot tubs are often misunderstood by both owners and guests. The photos below, taken just 45 minutes apart, illustrate the difference. On the left is a hot tub as it was left after a guest checked out. On the right, the same tub has been properly sanitized, with clear water ready for the next guest.
Some people choose to drain and refill the hot tub after every use, thinking it's the best way to ensure cleanliness. However, this approach isn’t necessary and can actually be more costly and less effective.
Draining and refilling a hot tub each time leads to higher expenses: more chemicals, increased electricity use to reheat the water, greater water consumption, and added wear on the tub’s pumps and heater.
Despite this effort, the tub might still not be clean. While the water may appear clear, bacteria can thrive in the water lines, pump, and heater. If the water isn’t balanced properly, bacteria can remain and continue to grow.
