In the 1880s, the sheepherders' wagon stood as a vital piece of the American frontier's pastoral history. As settlers expanded into the vast landscapes of the West, herding sheep became a crucial livelihood. The sheepherders' wagon, a rugged and practical mobile shelter, was a testament to the resilience and resourcefulness of those tending flocks in remote areas.
Constructed with sturdy wooden frames and often mounted on robust wagon wheels, these wagons were designed for mobility across diverse terrains. Inside, a compact living space provided essential amenities, offering a refuge for herders facing the challenges of isolation and ever-changing weather. The sheepherders' wagon, with its simplicity and functionality, encapsulated the spirit of self-sufficiency that characterized life on the frontier.
We are proud to be able to maintain one of these historic wagons at the Silverbelt, and offer anyone the opportunity to experience a peice of history by staying a night or two!
..and yes, it is climate controlled for year round comfort ;)
