The Blackbird Writing Group

The Blackbird Writing Group The Blackbirds Writing Group meets every Saturday (except the 4th Saturday of the month, which is set aside for Kansas Writers' Inc. meetings) at 9 a.m.

The Blackbirds is a group of writers who have banded together to help one another improve their writing skills, provide constructive feedback and critiquing services, and moral support in what is often a lonely endeavor. Weekly submissions are submitted to all all members by email by Wednesday at 8 p.m. for the following meeting. Members read all submission and provide verbal critiques to the grou

p during the workshop meeting on Saturday. The Blackbirds Writing Group is currently writing a round-robin novella based on our field trip to the Matrot Winery Cellars in Topeka with each member taking on a chapter and then passing the entire work to the next member. Each member is also contributing a short story related to the novella.

We just returned from a great weekend retreat with KS Writers Inc. Thirteen members gathered at Basswood Lodge near Platte City, MO Friday afternoon through Sunday morning. We spent most of Saturday and Sunday morning writing. Saturday evening we had a read aloud critique session and then an intense game of Cards Against Humanity. Several group members either finished a project or came very close. I'm already looking forward to next year!
