Looking for an easy day trip from Traverse City? 🚗🌊
Charlevoix is one of our family's favorite places to spend the day. It is close enough to leave Dyer Lake after breakfast, enjoy a full day of exploring, and still make it back for dinner and a Northern Michigan sunset. 🌅
Watch for the drawbridge to go up, search for Petoskey and Charlevoix stones along Lake Michigan, find the whimsical Mushroom Houses, explore Castle Farms, hit the trails, and save a little time for shopping and fudge downtown.
We put together some of our favorite stops for a Charlevoix day trip, including a few places our family visits again and again.

🚗 How far would you drive for a Northern Michigan day trip?
For our family, two hours is just the beginning of an adventure!
On their way home from Marquette, the kids spent the afternoon exploring Mackinaw City. Their day included a giant Transformer 🤖, a great lunch, swimming, rock hunting, Petoskey stones, Charlevoix stones and some beautiful views of the Straits.
It reminded us of all the Mackinaw City day trips we took when our kids were younger, and why the Traverse City area makes such a great home base for exploring Northern Michigan.
You don't have to see everything. Pick a few things, enjoy the drive and see where the day takes you.

🌲☀️ Happy Labor Day from Dyer Lake Vacation Home!
There is something special about a long holiday weekend Up North. A quiet morning by the lake, time with family and friends, something good on the grill, and nowhere you absolutely have to be.
