A home with history, heart, and a whole new chapter ✨

What started as a humble 2-bedroom cabin built just before the 1960 Winter Olympics has now become the fully reimagined 4-bedroom mountain retreat we know today as Heart of the Mountain.

This home carries so much Tahoe history within its walls, and being featured by Staycation TV and Destination Channel made this journey even more special. 🤍

Both Val and I had the opportunity to share the story behind the remodel, the vision, and why creating spaces that feel warm, intentional, and deeply connected to Tahoe matters so much to us.

This project was truly a labor of love — honoring the original character of the home while thoughtfully expanding it for modern mountain living and unforgettable family memories.

We’re so grateful to bring new life to a home that has been part of Tahoe’s story for decades. 🏔️

POV: You find one of Truckee’s coolest hidden adventures 🤍

The Truckee Tunnels hike feels like stepping into another world. We parked just before the vista point on HWY 40 and took the makeshift trail up to one of the tunnel entrances. Once inside, we kept walking until the first opening… and the views overlooking Donner Lake are absolutely mesmerizing.

The tunnels themselves are covered in colorful graffiti art, giving the whole experience an unexpected mix of Tahoe nature and urban creativity. 🎨✨

A few tips before you go:
🥾 Wear good hiking shoes
🧥 Bring a jacket — it’s surprisingly cool inside the tunnels
📍The trail is short, but uneven in some areas
🌲 Totally worth it for the views and the experience

One of those Tahoe spots that makes you stop and just take it all in. ✨

One of the best views in Truckee… and almost no one talks about it. 👀🏔️

Tucked at the top of Skislope in Tahoe Donner, Glacier Way Trailhead is one of our favorite hidden gems. 🌲

Hike about 0.6 miles in, take a left toward Donner Lake, and you’ll be rewarded with incredible views of Donner Lake and the iconic Truckee Tunnels.

Keep following the trail and it eventually connects into the Pacific Crest Trail. ✨

And the best part? Our Mountain View Lodge is just a house away from the entrance to this trailhead — meaning adventure literally starts outside your door.

This is the kind of Tahoe morning you remember long after vacation ends. 🤍
