Can’t say I heard the noise with the storm clouds but what a crazy thing to happen on Cape.
Woah! New info regarding the weekend meteor. NASA told 12 News that it was a bit larger…5 feet wide! It had a mass of 5.6 metric tons, and may have been moving at roughly 42,000 mph.
So it was larger and slower than originally thought.
We now have a trajectory, too! It moved from the northwest to the southeast for about 26 miles before breaking up at an altitude of 31 miles. The meteorites fell into Cape Cod Bay.
A NASA spokesperson told 12 News Meteorologist Catie McNeil that based on the latest data, the energy released was equivalent to that of 230 tons of TNT.
