People have lived in and around Saguaro National Park for thousands of years and predating even today's Tohono O'odham Nation by centuries. So many of the stories of these people who came before are yet untold. The stories that are being rediscovered are often told through archeological artifacts.
In Saguaro National Park these artifacts come in the form of petroglyphs and pottery sherds. These are protected resources that give us insight into what life in the Sonoran desert was like long ago. It is vital that they are preserved in their original condition.
🏜
We still have so much to learn about human heritage in Saguaro National Park. By defacing petroglyphs or moving pottery sherds the artifact's history is permanently altered and reconstructing the human heritage of the area becomes very challenging.
Help us preserve this heritage by taking only pictures and leaving only footprints (on the trail 😉 ).
