๐จ I have some BAD news... and some GOOD news! ๐ด๐น
A little while ago, I shared that I had created a brand-new room at Motel Safari called Tucum-Tiki Tonight. I went all out decorating it to capture that fun, mid-century tiki vibe. From the dรฉcor and music to the hidden clues, I wanted it to feel like stepping into another world.
The original plan was for it to become a geocaching room.
Inside the room is a treasure chest secured with a 6-digit combination lock. To open it, players search the room for clues hidden throughout the tiki bar. I even wrote an original story that guides you through the adventure, with hints to help you discover the combination. Of course, no tiki adventure would be complete without the perfect soundtrack, so I created a custom tiki music playlist to set the mood.
๐ The Bad News...
I submitted Tucum-Tiki Tonight to Geocaching.com, hoping it would become one of the most unique geocaches on Route 66.
Unfortunately, it was rejected because Geocaching's rules don't allow caches that require participants to enter commercial property. I appealed the decision, hoping the room might qualify as an exception, but the appeal was also denied.
While I'm disappointed, I completely understand and respect their decision.
๐ The Good News...
The Tiki Bar isn't going anywhere!
Instead, it's becoming a fun gathering place for our guests.
No, we're not serving alcohol... it's BYOB! ๐น
Bring your favorite beverage, relax with friends or family, meet fellow travelers, or just enjoy the tropical atmosphere after a day on Route 66.
Even better, the treasure chest challenge is staying!
Anyone staying at Motel Safari is welcome to take on the challenge. Search for the clues, solve the puzzle, crack the 6-digit combination, and discover what's inside the treasure chest.
Inside you'll find:
๐บ SWAG with toys and trinkets for kids... and kids at heart.
๐บ A basket of leis. Take one, wear it, and have some fun!
๐๏ธ A Tiki Treasure Ticket. Take your ticket to the front office for a 1 in 10 chance to win a free Motel Safari souvenir. You might walk away with a sticker, magnet, keychain, or even a FREE Motel Safari T-shirt!
So while it may not be an official geocache, I think it has become something even better... a place where our guests can laugh, explore, solve a puzzle, and make a few great memories.
I can't wait to see everyone's reactions when they step into Tucum-Tiki Tonight.
๐ด Aloha, and we'll see you on Route 66!
