From two former military fellas, we just want to say we hope this weekend is full of joy, laughter, gratitude, and people you care about.

We’ve seen hard days and had our bumps and bruises from our service. We’ve lost friends. We know life is precious and time moves fast.

So hug your people a little tighter. Tell folks you love them. Sit by the fire. Pet the dog. Take the boat ride. Eat the good food. Laugh too loud. Stay up too late.

Make the days count and spread some love around. That’s the good stuff right there!

Honor those we have lost by living life fully ♥️

I'm off to the brewery to see some new friends! See ya later!

After watching some replays of my absolutely electric wiffle ball performance at Northwood today, I think it’s time the Tupper Lake Riverpigs start having some serious internal discussions.

Now listen, I’m not saying I should be batting cleanup or anything reckless like that. I understand there are “standards” and “athletic ability” and “medical concerns.”

But surely there’s room somewhere on the roster for a middle-aged man with unlimited enthusiasm, and the hustle of a raccoon stealing hot dogs behind Stewart’s.

At minimum I deserve a pinch runner role 🤸

I may not look fast, but I am surprisingly spry when properly motivated. Especially if there’s crowd support, free snacks, or the possibility of embarrassing myself publicly.

I can absolutely give you one emotionally inspiring trip around the bases a week.

The talent may not be there, but the heart is there. The grit is there.

You know where to find me River Pigs!

High Falls Gorge was beautiful. I’m a sucker for anything outdoors, especially waterfalls 🙂

A great thing about staying in Tupper Lake is not only is so much right here, but basically everything in the Adirondacks is one direction or another from here.

We have the best basecamp in the park!

You leave the friendly faces, better prices, and lesser crowds of this great little town and just wander if you wish.

I was headed to Whiteface Mountain, then suddenly I’m at a random lemonade stand, taking a short hike, finding waterfalls I didn’t know anything about, and pulling over every ten minutes because the drive itself feels like a nature tour.

Bars, restaurants, shops, hikes, ice cream, history - whatever tickles your fancy, you'll find it!

Roll down your windows, get some fresh air, and see what adventure shows up. That’s my style. I made no plans besides “go toward tall mountain” and ended up having a better day than even my optimistic self could have hoped for.

Whiteface was awesome by the way! I will share some more on that.

Saturday was a beautiful day.

My buddy Garret Wormuth invited me to the Van Dusen track meet, which has been going on for 102 years now. So cool.

A gang piled into the Northwood truck and hit the road for a bit.

Truck full of friends, stories, bad jokes, loud laughing exactly the kinda day I like! ♥️🙂

Garret was running hurdles and I would just like the record to show that my completely unhinged sideline yelling was absolutely worth at least three hundredths of a second. Science probably could back that up.

He dove for the win, so awesome. His mother expressed concern. Matt simply shouted YESSSS and did a fist pump! I knew my guy would tuck and roll 😂

On the way back we stopped at Raquette River Pub for wings, then made it home in time for a quarter auction bingo raffle here in Tupper. I got some awesome homemade soap and baked goods, no surprise on the latter 😊

One thing I would tell people visiting from out of town - go do the local stuff. Small town fundraisers, high school sports, weird little raffles, community dinners, that’s the real good stuff.

That’s where the laughs are. That’s where the stories are. And honestly, that’s where you get to see what a town is actually made of and how you get in the mix.

My lake trips and boat rides and hikes and people to take me fishing and so on are on the product of me doing things like this.

Make friends, even if you're just here a few days!

One of the things I said early on was that I wanted the history of Northwood Cabins to stay alive right here on the walls of the cabins themselves. Old photos. Stories. Memories. Little pieces of the people who built this place and loved it long before we came along.

Yesterday was a huge step toward that. What a wonderful time!

I had the pleasure of meeting Marlene, the granddaughter of the founders of Northwood Cabins Eva and Arthur LaPorte.

Ninety two years young, still beautiful and sharp as a tack!

We sat and laughed while she shared incredible stories and brought along amazing old photographs from the motel’s past. The photos stop you in your tracks a bit because the place still looks so familiar.

Tiny moments from nearly 100 years ago that I swear you can feel.

We’re going to carefully scan and preserve many of them so guests can experience the history of this place while staying here.

Marlene is also the daughter of Arthur Jr., the man who designed our beloved Northwood sign!

So it feels only fitting that Cabin One now officially has a name, after my new friend:

MARLENE

I can’t think of a better way to honor the family that helped shape this little corner of Tupper Lake history ❤️

Thank you to Katherine, the great granddaughter of the founders, for making this happen. I can't wait to see you all again!

Yep, to pay homage to the Adirondack Parks history of man and nature respecting each other, after installing a flagpole I taught the resident Woodchuck name Chuck (creative I know) to pay respect, believe it or don't.

You see how occupied I like to stay. I sleep like four hours a night. I needed a task to fill any voids. I'm not explaining how, but he was not harmed, touched or fed anything, though he has been way jazzed about the stumps we've been grinding. Like a woodchucks dream. Classic.

The time is now right for our camp flag to proudly fly too.

So we’re doing it.

THE GREAT NORTHWOOD CABINS FLAG CONTEST

Here’s the deal:

Design a Northwood Cabins flag. Funny, weird, nostalgic, beautiful, ridiculous, summer camp-ish, mildly unhinged - whatever feels right.

Post your design as an image in the comments on this post.

You can also campaign for yourself in the comments if you’d like. Dramatic speeches, fake backstories, emotional pleas all welcomed. Humor will absolutely help your cause because the people of Tupper and Northwood fans are easily influenced by nonsense, I am proof of that 😂

One week from today, next Thursday night, the FIVE designs with the most reactions move on to the championship round.

Then next Friday morning I’ll post the finalists for one big final vote.

Winner gets:
A FREE TWO NIGHT STAY at Northwood Cabins.

And before someone asks:
No blackout dates.
No “excluding holidays.”
No “except peak season.”
No coupon code written in ancient riddles.
If we’ve got a cabin open, you can use it.

This feels like exactly the kind of thing a roadside motel from 1929 should be doing.

Godspeed, artists.

Well all my hump day ideas panned out!

I wandered off course while writing and mentioned I should probably have a canoe around here. Asked if anyone had a cool old one lookin’ for a new home.

An hour later the sweetest folks, Rachel and Bruce reached out. I drove over and they gifted me a beautiful Kevlar Old Town canoe from 1985.

Bruce bought it brand new himself! What a treasure!

When I asked what they wanted for it they said, “Your friendship is enough.” 🥹♥️

See why I love this place so much?

And remember how I was carrying on earlier about our laundromat donut shop situation? Well that thought was still bouncing around in my brain during the canoe adventure, so naturally I stopped in to The Washboard/Donut Shoppe.

Delicious as always. Ran into my neighbor Tim too. Funny fella. Good guy. Honestly everybody here is just so dang kind to me.

I’m still leaning toward this being some sort of cult. See a way back previous post for my investigative reporting on that matter. It adds up. Please don't come to save me though.

Then after a little work around the cabins I headed to the reopening of The Marketplace Food Truck at 3:00 sharp.

Once again I was the first customer. This is beginning to feel like a calling. If your seasonal business is opening soon please notify me so I can continue collecting these tremendous honors.

My reward this time was a shoutout post featuring possibly the most aggressively zoomed-in photo ever taken of a human 😂

The food was top notch.

After that I knocked out a few more chores and ended up at trivia night at Raquette River Brewing with dear friends.

Dave brought his new dog and lord have mercy that pup is cute.

Tupper’s doing great too. He’s got himself a little courtyard now and people keep bringing him gifts.

This town is something else for sure. Visit.

Later today I will post so we can get this Northwood flag design contest rolling. This sounds so fun!

Summer in Tupper is creeping in and I keep waking up more and more jazzed. Sorry, society.

I have lots and lots to do, but I also think it’s a good day for an outing. I think we need a canoe around here. Does anyone have a vintage one they need to offload?

We’re basically next door to one of the best launches on the river “The Crusher.” Sounds aggressive, but apparently it’s just named after an old rock crusher. Nobody’s getting flattened.

Some of the best flatwater paddling anywhere is right here in Tupper Lake!

I also think it’s a donut morning.

You know we have a laundromat with a donut shop here. Or maybe it’s a donut shop with a laundromat attached. I dunno, but I can tell you this with confidence, the donuts are DELICIOUS.

Which reminds me, a sweet (pun intended) shout out to Tina from The Washboard/Donut Shoppe who was out playing pickleball with the group yesterday morning. I mentioned, by that I mean carried on and on, about craving a donut and next thing I know good ol’ Bill LeBlanc comes rolling in carrying my favorite! Thanks Bill 😊

My number one is a glazed then covered in chocolate icing and coconut.

If you haven't been they have plain donuts and then the deck em out to your liking. They're quite tolerant of creativity. Like many things Tupper it's The Good Old Days, no craft donut prices here, a buck seventy five gets you one!

I first heard of that place in a Travel and Leisure story that mentioned them and the cabins:

This town is the best!!

Tupper Lake is gonna have a FULL summer. Even if you’re not staying with us, book somewhere in town.

This place is special and it’s full of good people and smack in the middle of the greatest nature you can find 🌳🌲⛰️⛺

If you’ve already been here, get yourself back.

If you haven’t been yet - you’re friggin missing out. Come on. Life is short. Go have some adventures!

People always find it odd when I say I love Mondays.

I love all days.

Yeah yeah, I know that sounds cliche, but I don’t care 😉

We woke up this morning. That alone feels like a pretty darn good reason to smile.

New week. Fresh start.

Go have some fun and enjoy whatever ya got going on my friends!

I ♥️ TUPPER LAKE

Beautiful day here today! Lots going on around the place. Tupper got to ride in the truck we ended up at Skyline Ice Cream again. At this rate I’m gonna need to hire a trainer 🤣

The new flagpole is really adding to the whole summer camp vibe around here and now I’m torn on the flag design.

One mockup version has kind of a vintage comic feel and the other is super simple and classic.

Any thoughts?

Maybe we just need to make this a full blown community contest. Folks submit ideas, everybody votes, winner gets a free stay at Northwood and maybe a few local gift certificates too??

Might be zero interest. Worth asking 😁

Hope you all had a dandy weekend!

I ♥️ TUPPER LAKE

05/10/2026

We welcome everyone at Northwood, but if you’re permanently grumpy this honestly might not be your kinda place 😊

We’re trying to nurture joy here!

Like old summer camp joy.

The kind where you hear laughter across the property. And look to see what shenanigans are going on.

The kind where people stay outside late talking with new friends.

The kind where a grown adult gets wildly competitive during some flour sack race or bocce tournament.

We want nature.
We want campfires.
We want amazing views and smiling faces.

The only hurries we want to be in are to catch a sunrise, get to a Tupper Lake River Pigs game on time so we can holler for the home team or get the burgers off the grill before somebody burns em on the Fourth of July.

There will absolutely be bb guns and a soda can range.
There may be retro bow and arrows.
There shall be ridiculous tournaments with prizes nobody needs but everybody desperately wants!!

I take the things that need serious attention seriously 🫡

But honestly that list is shorter than people think.

Most everything else in life gets better if you loosen the ol’ belt one notch, unclench your jaw a little bit and have some damn fun 😜

After all

These days ARE the good old days.
