May the fall memories not fade as fast as the photos. πŸ“ΈπŸ‚

The tones on film might soften over time, and the autumn leaves will eventually fall, but the moments made in the mountains stay vivid forever.

There’s a quiet magic to autumn here in Turtletown, Tennessee. When Ocoee Country turns to rich shades of crimson, rust, and gold, time seems to stretch out just a little longer. Days are filled with crisp morning trips to the local petting zoo, slow walks near the lake surrounded by peak foliage, and afternoons soaking in the mountain air. When the sun dips, it’s all about heading back to the cabin, gathering around the fire, and reminiscing over the day’s best moments.

Peak fall foliage in the mountains is brief, and the calendar fills up fast. Bring your family, pack your favorite camera, and capture moments that will outlast the season.

More forest traffic = More fires.

More forest traffic = More fires.

Background Roads play an important role in managing fire on the national forests. But roads also are known to increase ignitions and damage ecosystems. Roads may limit the size of wildfires, which may be viewed as desirable where fires endanger human life and property or undesirable if roadlessness....

08/22/2026

Protect Forests. Defend the Roadless Rule. 🌲✊

We have until September 21, 2026 to submit official public opposition at:
https://www.regulations.gov/document/FS-2025-0001-223869

Let’s demand real, proactive forest health initiatives that support local communities and private neighbors.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is advancing a plan to strip protections from 45 million acres of public land under the guise of "wildfire management." The argument is that we need to build roads to log the forest to save it. But the data tells a completely different story. πŸ“Š

The Reality Check:

Decades of spatial mapping and federal wildfire data reveal an undeniable truth: roughly 90% of human-caused wildfires start within just a half-mile of a road. πŸš—πŸ”₯

Roads do not stop fires; they introduce them. They act as linear ignition corridors, bringing in hot exhaust pipes, dragging trailer chains, and more. When you slice open a pristine forest with a road, you remove the canopy. The sun beats down, the wind whips through, and the forest floor turns into a dry tinderbox.

A Voice From Within the Woods:

True proactive forest management doesn't mean spending taxpayer dollars to bulldoze logging roads into remote ecosystems. It means investing exactly where people and nature meet: the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI). 🏑🌳

Instead of subsidizing industrial access to public lands, federal funding should be redirected toward empowering local forest managers and private landowners. Programs like the USDA’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) need to be expanded. We need resources to thin heavy fuel loads and maintain vital emergency access on existing footprints, not the ecological destruction of new road networks.

Good Morning!

Sometimes Ocoee Country shows off . . .

A full rainbow stretching across the sky beyond the historic Hildebrand House reminds us that the best views aren't always on the itinerary -- they're the ones nature surprises us with.

Did you see the rainbow recently, and where were you?

Cruising through McCaysville and Copperhill is the ultimate two-for-one road trip destination. You can literally park your car in one state and walk across the street to grab lunch in another. πŸš—πŸ’¨

Huge shoutout to Ocoee Rafting for an epic trip, and a massive thank you to our guide, Trevor! He gave us top-notch service, kept us laughing, and navigated those rapids like an absolute pro. πŸ™Œ

What's your favorite photo?
1️⃣ All smiles in the calm water πŸ˜„

2️⃣ Getting totally submerged in the splash zone 🌊 (yes, we’re under there somewhere!)

3️⃣ The splashdown anticipation πŸš€

If you’re planning a trip down the river, we wish you have this much fun! πŸ’―βœ¨

Taking the scenic route isn't a bad thing. Winding roads, roaring river views, and you can even enjoy a cozy lunch by the water! There’s nothing quite like a trip down the Ocoee Scenic Byway! πŸš—πŸ’¨

We repped our Ocoee Country sticker proudly as we hit the two-lane curves, taking in the sights at every pull-off:

🌊 Watching the river rush past
πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Old Glory flying proud over the dam
🧺 Wrapping up our trip with a lakeside picnic and a cozy cabin blanket

If you haven't taken this drive lately, this is your sign to pack a lunch and go! 🌲✨
