The Palace Hotel has its roots in the economic boom following the coming of the railroad to Ukiah in the late 19th century. Built in 1891, the Palace was a symbol of economic prosperity and luxury, built to attract the many urban dwellers of the Bay Area who traveled to Mendocino County to partake of the areas mineral springs and outdoor recreation. It served as a Stalwart anchor of Ukiah's downto

wn, both physically and socially for 80 years. Much of that time it was run by one family who invested heavily in the building to keep it modern and attractive to the businessmen and travelers who passed through Ukiah. Its period of significance (1891-1966) extends from its initial construction in 1891 through its ownership by two generations of Sandelin family, which ended in 1966.

The days are numbered for the historic Palace Hotel, especially if a pending $6.6 million taxpayer-funded financing scheme of a local tribe and its planned partners wins state approval.

Hello everyone. Its been a while but we are still here. Tours are still postponed until further notice. We are currently in the early stages of working on our museum/gallery here at the Palace. It start of that we have for sale a beautiful hand carved oak and wrought iron rocking chair that is approximately 40 years old. It is located in the office at the Palace Hotel so you can see it in person and also take a look at the attached photos. We are asking for $800. Money will go to the Palace Hotel Restoration Fund.
