We just resurfaced the family shuffleboard court — originally built in 1935 and last revamped in 1955. After years of puck jumps and odd bounces, Project #3 brings the run back to smooth, playable life. Read the story, see a piece of the process and relive a piece of our family history. https://wix.to/uevMXap

The shuffleboard court we have now was put in by our grandparents in 1935. Technically, my grandfather called it a shuffleboard run. It was resurfaced in 1955. It’s had a long life…which was beginning to show the wrinkles and cracks of age once again. At least one guest reported pucks going in o...

New on the blog: Project #2 — pool patio and table. After years of planning and knowing the mountain winds, we built a handcrafted cement table that keeps the umbrella grounded and a patio made to last. Read the full story and see photos: https://wix.to/eKvQFeS

A parallel project being worked on, at the same time as the barn floor, was the new patio and table. This has been a years-in-the-thinking project. I know about the winds on the mountain (living close by) and nixed every idea my brothers originally had about a table and umbrella. A table, chairs and...

We replaced our barn floor — a surprise project born from last summer’s dance events. Read the full build story and see photos: https://wix.to/33xBqWD

The barn floor was not on our bucket list…until dancers from two events last summer made it evident the barn floor needed repairing or replacing. We went with replacing. My brothers planned it, ordered the materials and set about putting in a new barn floor. Each board was edge sanded before it wa...

New on the blog: "Three Birds" — a short love letter to sunsets and the little moments that stop time. Read about the urge to step outside, snap another photo, and feel grateful for the sky's endless variety. Read more: https://wix.to/gTc2xRB

My siblings will be the first to tell you of my addiction to sunsets. I’ll be in the middle of a conversation, but then must have a commercial break, when I dart out of the room and head outside to check out the setting sun and the clouds. They are awe inspiring. I have thousands of pictures…and...

It is the book ends of our days that give me pauses and gratitude for what the Earth shares. I wake up and look out my window and no, even though it’s 502. It’s time to witness the changing light before the sunrise. Today, on a day that was mostly rainy and socked in, I sit on the porch and watch the sun go down. Late in the day, the skies lightened and the clouds gave way to clear blue sky. The Brooke, the constant sound interrupted only by the birds welcoming the day or bidding it good night. The birds on the weather vein turn, the Cambell silent, both bearing witness to the closing of the day as the sun sinks lower to the horizon of the Macomber range. The air noticeably chills, even before we lose the sun. While there are millions of peaceful places on this earth, this is the one that has stolen my heart. /sunset
