There’s something healing about spring at Goldberry Woods

Maybe it’s the sunshine.
Maybe it’s the flowers.
Or maybe it’s the simple act of putting your hands in the dirt again.

Scientists say there’s actually a beneficial soil bacteria that can help boost serotonin and improve mood… and honestly? We believe it.

This week, Julie has been filling the containers around the Inn and Barn with spring annuals, and Goldberry is starting to burst back to life.

Come wander the gardens, breathe in the fresh air, or even get your hands in the dirt with us. There are beautiful things growing everywhere.

Dahlia madness has officially begun at Goldberry Woods 🌸

Our market stand is OPEN for the season, and yes… our famous $1 dahlia tubers are back! These beauties multiply like crazy, so every year we divide and carefully store them to share with the community at a price that hopefully helps put more flowers into the world 🌼

This season’s stand also includes:
• Succulents in vintage planters
• Fresh cut flower bouquets
• Rhubarb
• Veggie seedlings
• Fig, gooseberry & currant bushes
• Goldberry merch
• Fun vintage treasures and more

He came back!

Last year we released more than 300 northern bobwhite quail at Goldberry Woods. We work hard to create safe prairie and forest habitat for them, but after about a month they usually begin wandering, so we rarely know whether they survive the winter.

Yesterday, one of the males returned.

First we spotted him near the permanent quail pen. Then he strutted right into the side yard, calling his classic “bobwhite!” call back and forth with Julie like an old friend stopping by to say hello. We were absolutely thrilled.

Northern bobwhite populations have declined dramatically in our area because of habitat loss, hunting pressure, and domestic cats. They’re also incredible tick eaters -- something that matters more and more as Lyme disease and other vector-borne illnesses continue to rise around Lake Michigan and across the country.

Moments like this remind us why restoring native habitat matters
