Sprague is a small community located about 30 minutes West of Spokane along Interstate 90. It has a rich railroad history serving as the Northern Pacific Railroads construction headquarters. The town is named after John W. Sprague, a general superintendent of the Northern Pacific. The town was incorporated in 1883. After a major fire, the Northern Pacific opted to move its terminus to Spokane, dealing a blow to Sprague's economy. With hundreds of acres of public land in the area, Sprague is an outdoorsman's paradise with ample hunting, fishing and hiking opportunities. Badger Lake, Sprague Lake, Williams Lake and more offer great fishing opportunities. There are several places to hop on the Columbia Plateau Trail to check out the scenic attractions the area offers.
