When Johannes and Rosana Faessler (pictured here) took over the Sonnenalp in 1986, Vail lacked two essentials: good bread and a quality cup of coffee. Today, our in-house bakery turns out delicious Bavarian pretzels and pastries every morning, and Lavazza espresso runs through every restaurant on the property.

From the moment you step into the lobby, you can see this symmetry in the decor—an antique sleigh shipped from Germany, and the carved carousel horses originally from the Leadville fairgrounds about an hour south.
