Our lovely guests sat in the breakfast room snacking on hors d’oeuvres, drinking w**e, catching up, and relaxing while I made dinner in the adjacent kitchen. I already love cooking but the sweet sound of friendship made cooking dinner tonight for these two particularly special. One came from Orlando and one came from Tallahassee. They’ve been friends since law school. This is exactly what we’d hoped would happen. People coming together in this comfy place.

Sometimes breakfast doesn’t go as planned.

Sometimes your cooking mojo is just OFF.

Sometimes the timing doesn’t work.

Sometimes the biscuits have their own agenda.

And sometimes it feels like the universe simply refuses to cooperate in all the ways you need it to.

And when you’re the one cooking, you notice every single thing that didn’t turn out exactly the way you wanted.

But then you look around the table.

The plates are empty.

The coffee is flowing.

Guests are laughing and talking.

Nobody seems to care about all those little things you thought went wrong.

And there’s a baby sitting there completely chocolate-gravy drunk, living their absolute best life. 😂❤️

And you think…
Okay.

Maybe the universe got it right after all, even if we felt like we didn’t this time.

Because hospitality was never really about a perfect plate.

It’s about full bellies, empty plates, laughter around the table, and people feeling at home.

And apparently, occasionally, a chocolate-gravy-drunk baby. 😂

It's the beginning of a busy holiday weekend at Rose-Wiles Bed & Breakfast.

The coffee pot is ready and set to start at 6am, the tea kettle is ready to be turned on, and the kitchen is cleaned up after serving dinner to our guests tonight! 🍽️❤️

When you stay with us at Rose-Wiles Bed & Breakfast, dinner is on us at least one night of your stay, because the last thing you should have to worry about after a busy day is figuring out where to eat.

Our guests this weekend have a pretty packed schedule, so we even made them a little space on our refrigerator calendar with where they need to be and when.

Sometimes hospitality is a good meal.

Sometimes it’s coffee and conversation.

And sometimes it’s simply taking one more thing off someone’s mind.

Because when you stay with us, we want it to feel a whole lot less like staying at a hotel and a whole lot more like staying with family. ❤️

What an incredible visit with my cousin, Demetrios, his warm, lovely, entertaining wife, Sue, and beautiful, quiet, graceful, daughter, Rebecca!! We ate! We told stories! We caught up! We played Qwirkle! And we packed a lot of family time in. Miss Oula got a lot of loving. In fact, after the family left, she had a pettin’ hangover.

We are so excited to have some guests here this weekend. They also happen to be family, which makes their stay extra special. We’re looking forward to spending time with them, enjoying a few good meals (in addition to breakfast, I’m making them dinner - my famous baked chicken with roasted petite potatoes), and playing some Qwirkle. In preparation, I was trying to do some last-minute cleaning and chores, but Oula had other things in mind.
