Tomorrow’s the day!!! Senate Bill 63 becomes the law and the counties who have opted in will be ready to assist you in registering your side by side! Huge shout out to Johnson County Clerk Sallee Ann Holbrook for staying on the phone all day and giving us blow by blow updates about the implementation of the new law.
Let’s take it from the top;
1) you must have the follow things installed to take your side by side to the sheriff for inspection
A)turn signals with indicator lights on the front and back
B)a functioning horn
C)a roll cage
D)a windshield or eye protection
E)seat belts
F)tires with a minimum tread of 2/32 or more
G)functional brake lights
H)insurance
I)$25 for the sheriff for inspection
2)About the tax issues
A)If you have proof that you paid taxes when you purchased your side by side, take it with you to the clerk’s office.
B)If you do not have proof of the sales tax you paid when you purchased your vehicle, you will have to pay taxes (6%) at registration .
3) You must have proof of insurance when you go to the clerk’s office.
4)The registration itself is $10
5)Registration does not apply to four-wheelers or dirt bikes.
6)You cannot have a farm exemption and a tag, it is one or the other.
7)Registration is not mandatory.
