Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day.

Indigenous peoples have cared for the lands and waters of the Pacific Northwest since time immemorial. Today honors that history, the cultures and traditions that continue to thrive, and the leadership of Native communities as stewards, artists, educators, and changemakers.

The day grew out of Indigenous-led advocacy to recognize who was here first and to tell a fuller, truer story. It's a day to learn, to listen, and to support Native-led organizations in our communities.

Happy birthday, Lee Edward Allen! 🏔️🎉

Eddie built Pacific Northwest Fundraising around his love of mountains and hiking and most especially for the love of helping nonprofit organizations.

He led our team up every climb with heart and a steady hand on the map. We asked the team to share a few words for his big day:

Cheri, Senior Steward of Fundraising and Community Partnerships:
"Happy birthday! It's hard to believe we've been crossing paths in the nonprofit world for more than 15 years now, and I have loved 'dipping our toes' into working together these past two years. We really need to finally make good on our talk of setting up a paddling trip, and while on the water we definitely need to knock back a b**r or two to celebrate your day."

Wendy, Grant Writer:
"Eddie, I'd heard about you long before I met you, which is usually how it goes with unicorns. Everyone said you were a rare find, the kind of leader people describe in hushed, reverent tones, like they'd spotted something magical at the edge of the forest. They undersold it. You don't just write about unicorns; you make the rest of us feel like we might be one too. Happy birthday!"

Tomorrow, KXRW 99.9 FM is turning over the microphone to nonprofit leaders from across Southwest Washington.

Tune in Thursday, September 24, from 12–3 p.m. to hear directly from people doing the work, sharing their organizations, their missions, and the communities they serve.

We’re especially excited to hear two familiar voices: Hector Hinojosa with Community Roots Collaborative and Jill Campbell with The Hough Foundation. They’ll be joined by nonprofit leaders representing organizations and causes from throughout our community.
