Florida doesn’t panic when winter shows up… it improvises. 😅

With a cold snap on the horizon, road prep is officially underway, Florida-style. No fleet of snowplows, no mountains of rock salt, just a bike, a flashing light, and a container of margarita salt doing its civic duty. If it says DOT and looks confident enough, we’re calling it official.

Other states bring out heavy equipment and decades of winter planning. Florida brings vibes, creativity, and whatever happens to be lying around the garage. Is it excessive? No. Is it effective? Also unclear. But the roads are technically seasoned, and that counts for something.

This is how Florida handles rare winter weather, half serious, half comedy, fully committed. We’ll adapt, laugh about it, and be back in flip-flops before anyone finishes scraping their windshield up north.

Drive safe, stay warm, and remember, in Florida even emergency prep comes with a twist of lime. 🍋

Just another day in the neighborhood, that would be the quiet neighborhood of Venice East, preparing our house for our new renters Karen and Greg who arrived on Sunday and will be making the Date Palm House their home away from home for the next two months. ♥️

Hi Josie. Got this and your email and will send you an email in response later today. This month has whipped by so quickly and I'm sad to be leaving . I have the checklist out and ready to go thru and we will follow all the directions about the keys etc. Yes...the VRBO fees are expensive. Is the house available next January or February by any chance and what would be your monthly rates if so? More to follow in the email ...the month has been great....except the weather could have been a little warmer😃. You have been lovely to deal with...thank you.
