Preserving and enhancing Anchuca is our top priority, but so is leading by example and giving back to the historic neighborhood around us, helping ensure a positive experience for Vicksburg’s visitors. Today we kicked off a volunteer project to repaint the guide arrows along Vicksburg’s Heritage Walking Trails.

If you haven’t walked them yet, you’re missing out! Five routes and 35 storytelling markers go from the Trailhead through our oldest streets to Catfish Row Art Park.

The original project was funded by the National Park Service’s Lower Delta Initiative, Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Vicksburg and implemented by the City of Vicksburg’s Tim McCarley, Vicksburg National Military Park, Visit Vicksburg, Downtown Vicksburg Main Street Program, The Old Court House Museum, Gordon Cotton, David Maggio, and Morgan Gates.

Anchuca is grateful for Mr. Nau’s selfless efforts aimed at preserving our Nation’s sites of historical significance to be experienced by generations to come. Thank you, Mr. Nau

Following the recent Vicksburg Post photo taken at Anchuca announcing the 2025–26 Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg, MS Provisional Class, we’ve been repeatedly asked a very important question:

“Who is the handsome mini Australian shepherd in the portrait behind the ladies?”

Allow us to clarify: that beauty is Copper Francis Doiron-Andrews, beloved canine of Anchuca owners Anna Kate and Sam Andrews and proud self-appointed, four-legged heir to the mansion.

Copper is NOT a provisional member. He did show up to an initial meeting, but got distracted by a moth and never came back. Happens to the best of us.
