Dan Black, the newest board member of the Victor Heritage Society, is a retired teacher who has always had a passion for teaching history.

He first discovered Victor in 1971 during his freshmen year at DU. In August of 2022, Dan purchased the Tatlow building at the corner of Victor Avenue and Fourth Street.

Dan has spent numerous hours creating three dioramas that will be on display during this year’s Gold Rush Days and Victor Heritage Days.
—The first runs along present highway 81 from about where Gold Camp Road connects to a point just short of Grassy Valley.
—The second is the Valley itself including the town of Cameron and Pinnacle Park.
—The third and largest extends from the top of Victor Pass down to and just beyond the ruins of LaBella Power Plant. It includes all of the ground covered by the present day Vindicator Trail as well as Independence all the way up to the Findlay Mine and the Florence & CC Depot.

In addition to his dioramas displayed at Victor City Hall, Dan will be giving two walking tours that focus on District Railroads in Victor.
—Tour #1 covers the Midland Terminal Railroad.
—Tour #2 will cover some of the Florence & CC from its depot site near 4th and Diamond as well as the Shortline between its end point near City Hall to a point a little past western edge of Victor.

See below flyer for specific times and places. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
