Today is National Lighthouse Day! Did you know the Cape Henry Lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places? Built in 1792, it is the first federally funded construction project in the country authorized under George Washington’ administration. It was retired after nearly a century of service when a second lighthouse was commissioned and is the centerpiece of our City seal.
