The Gold Hill Hotel is a picturesque country inn located in Gold Hill, Nevada, one mile south of Virginia City in the Comstock Historic District. It is the oldest hotel in Nevada and offers guest facilities in the original 1861 stone structure, an 1987 addition, and several separate historic lodges. Each room features a private bath and is uniquely decorated in period style with antiques and repro

ductions. The Crown Point Restaurant offers fine dining, and the Gold Hill Saloon provides guests with a rustic environment to relax and unwind. The Gold Hill Hotel is easily accessible from Dayton, Mound House, and Carson City via US 50 and State Routes 341 and 342, and from Reno via State Routes 341 and 342.

Thursday, August 20th lecture will be Jean-Guy T. Dubé on: “Virginia & Truckee Railroad’s Comstock Lode Depots”

Dinner starts at 4:30 p.m. and lecture starts at 7:00 p.m.

Lecture Description:
Depots of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad was born from the riches and needs of the mining industry of the Comstock Lode. Beginning with its first spike driven on September 28, 1869, the railroad carried the ore and riches of Virginia City to Reno. On the return trip, lumber and supplies traveled up to build Virginia City and its mines. The intermediate stop, Carson City, provided service to our mint and state capital. At Reno, it’s connection to the Central Pacific Railroad provided access to our nation’s first transcontinental route.

Passenger and freight depots were integral to this process. We’ll step out on the platforms and inside the depots of Virginia City, Gold Hill, Mound House, Carson City and Reno. Grab your ticket to ride and see the V&T’s depots and wayside structures as we steam down the rails the served Nevada’s Comstock Lode.

Bio of Lecturer:
Jean-Guy T. Dubé works for the State Historic Preservation Office of Nevada as the National and State Register of Historic Places Coordinator. He is a member of the Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Southern Pacific Historic & Technical Society, the Virginia & Truckee Railroad Historical Society, and many others. Dubé received the national Leicester B. Holland Prize in 2017 from the Library of Congress and National Park Service. He is an author, architectural draftsman and historian. He has studied Southern Pacific depots since 1983 and is the author of Railroad Depots: A Southern Pacific Collection. Mr. Dubé will have copies of his book for sale and signing at the lecture.

The fire is out in Gold Hill, thanks to first responders and the fire crews fast response. The Gold Hill Hotel and Crown Point Restaurant is open and Sheriff's will allow cars from the Virginia City side to pass through.

Welcome to the 2026 Ghost Tour series at the Gold Hill Hotel! Reservation still available Thursday 4/23 & 4/30!

The Gold Hill Hotel (as seen on Ghost Adventures and proclaimed the 8th most haunted location in Nevada) is now offering Historical Ghost Tours. These tours benefit various local charities. Hosted by the Northern Nevada Ghost Hunters (NNGH), your evening will start with a gourmet dinner in the Crown Point restaurant (one of the best restaurants on the Comstock).

After dinner, NNGH will guide you back in time with tales of the history and the hauntings of the hotel and the surrounding area, known as Slippery Gulch. Using ghost hunting tools and techniques, you can try to make contact with the spirits still in residence at the hotel. Please note that you will be touring some of the actual haunted rooms in the hotel as well!
