First of all, if you are finding yourself with an opportunity in this part of the world and the Upper Mississippi - which is really beautiful - look no further for accommodation options and try to get a space with Turning Waters Bed, Breakfast and Adventure!

We recently travelled in July and stayed at Turning Waters for 2 nights - 3 friends on a first-time trip to explore the Upper Mississippi and "driftless region" of the U.S. and a bit of a pilgrimmage to the spiritual home of the amazing film series "Grumpy Old Men". We were not at all familiar with the region, but from the moment of the first inquiry around availability and ideas for the trip, we knew we had to try and secure beds at this beautiful spot. The photos online are accurate, but do not do the rooms justice, and the wonderful warm, ambitious, and extremely helpful host, Brenda, is a delight that immediately treats you with priority, personable service, and over-the-top attentiveness to every need.

It was really encouraging to have this level of personalized service from the host. We felt so very taken care of right from the get-go, and that service and hospitality is extended ten-fold upon arrival. We were greeted warmly, provided suggestions for our stay, and made to feel at home-away-from-home beyond any expectation. The Hoppy Girl Brewery on-site adds to the hospitality by having a few options to feel welcome and well taken care of. If you're looking for warmth and hospitality, it is available to you in abundance.

The spaces - common spaces like living room area, communal breakfast dining - along with the rooms, are immaculately clean, quirky and full of personality and resources for local interests to explore and inspire, and very comfortable. Very comfortable beds, and everything you need to feel comfortable and at home.

The breakfast... my goodness. First off, coffee/tea options were made available and you could specify a time you'd like to have available for you, to then be able to go for a walk in the serentiy of a Wabasha morning, or sit and relax on the lovely porch of the property, while you await a very delicious and plentiful breakfast that was bursting with flavours, nutrition, and some indulgent options too. We ate incredibly well, were able to enoy one another's company and the company of other guests.

We were able to feel at home and relax in the common living area to watch a favourite movie, read some books, play a game or just chit chat. The town itself is quiet, serene, and beautiful, with enough local options to enjoy while exploring the greater region. The B&B itself is right in town, so very easy access from whatever direction you're coming, and a 5-minute walk or less to the river, the park, or the main street. It couldn't be more convenient location-wise.

Brenda has a lot of additional advice and services, so there's little doubt you are in great hands. It is a truly lovely home and space, only amplified by the gracious hospitality and service-first approach of the host. Would not hesitate to return, and indeed hope to, even when we had not initially expected to try to find a way back... we are already talking about a hopeful return!

So much to see and do in Wabasha and Kellogg will be hosting Kellogg Watermelon Festival. Make sure you get out and explore all that is going on! 🥰
