Magnum P.I. didn’t just make great television—it gave millions of people their first glimpse of Hawaiʻi as a place filled with adventure and endless possibilities.

Evacuations are underway due to a wildfire in South Kohala.

The blaze was reported at around 5 p.m., and the Hawaii Fire Department issued a wildfire warning for Waikoloa Village.

As of 5:45 p.m., officials said Buildings 4 and 5 of the Lofts have been evacuated. Waikoloa Elementary School Cafeteria is open as an evacuation shelter. ⬇

Honolulu officials issued a “LEAVE NOW” evacuation order at 5:35 a.m. Friday for Waialua and Haleiwa: “Extremely dangerous flooding and Wahiawa Dam is high.”

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green said in a social media post that the Hawaii National Guard has been activated to respond to the flooding. “The storm of course is very severe right now, particularly on the northern part of Oahu,” he said, describing chest-high flood waters. “It’s going to be a very touch-and-go day.”
