Waimea Plantation Cottages Aloha! Each cottage is unique in design and layout, and all of them contain fully equipped kitchens, living areas, and private lanais.

Waimea Plantation Cottages on the Hawaiian island of Kauai offers 59 one to five-bedroom, historic plantation homes on 43 tropically landscaped oceanfront acres. Far from the bustling resort scene, here you can truly relax and enjoy the pleasures of old-style Hawaiian ho’okipa (hospitality). Built between the 1880s and 1930s, Each cottage is preserved from the remains of a once small, but prosperous sugar plantation, Waimea Sugar Mill Company, incorporated in 1884, and many are named after their plantation laborers. Each of our 59 historic cottages has been well-preserved and lovingly refreshed while still retaining the charm and rustic quality of plantation-era homes. Some offer full or partial ocean views; others look out onto the resort’s lush gardens. Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, a private lanai, and comfortable Hawaii-style furnishings. Set in enclaves with sprawling green lawns between the cottages provide a sense of privacy amidst open space. Stroll about the serene grounds, walk along the two-mile-long black-sand beach, or watch a magnificent sunset. Relaxation, calm and serenity is what you will feel while in the oceanfront pool, or while enjoying the grounds. While at the Cottages, venture out to the nearby Waimea Canyon, explore by boat the Nāpali Coast, or check out Salt Pond Beach. Waimea Plantation Cottages is just a 40-minute drive from Lihue airport (LIH) and offers complimentary parking right outside each cottage. There are numerous popular restaurants nearby and onsite we feature the popular Chicken in a Barrel BBQ and Da Pizza Place. Our guest laundry room is now open, and Chicken in a Barrel is once again welcoming guests for delicious island-style favorites. We’re happy to have these amenities back and ready for you to enjoy during your stay.

To everyone helping Kauai recover, mahalo nui loa. In the days surrounding Hurricane Lowell and throughout the recovery, we have witnessed an incredible outpouring of dedication and aloha across our island.

Mahalo to Mayor Derek Kawakami and our County officials for their leadership and communication, to our first responders and emergency personnel, to the crews clearing roads and restoring essential services, and to everyone working tirelessly to help our communities recover.

And a very special mahalo to our Waimea Plantation Cottages ohana. We are incredibly grateful for the care, hard work and dedication our team has shown to our guests, our property and one another throughout it all.

Two weeks ago, you couldn’t even see the ground. These ladies usually work in our office, but they rolled up their sleeves and absolutely rocked the cleanup. We’re so grateful for our incredible team and all they’ve done.

Update: September 25, 2026

Great news! The property is officially reopening on Monday, October 12, 2026, and new reservations can be made from that date forward.

A few of the cottages, the pool, and the laundry rooms may still be under repair as we are waiting for construction materials to arrive from the mainland. Any guest checking in while the pool is closed, will not be charged a resort fee.

As always, guests who would like to modify a booking and who booked through a third party should contact their original booking provider directly.
