Exciting news for snowmobiling!!!

ONTONAGON COUNTY - If you use backroads in Ontonagon County, there could be changes to your winter route. The Ontonagon County Road Commission is holding a public hearing today, to consider adding several roads to its seasonal road system. Under Michigan law, roads placed in that system would not be open from November through April. We have a list of those roads on our website and page.

More improvements completed - all of the windows have been replaced (except 2 you don’t see from the inside, but will be replaced in 2027’s improvements).

The entry to the deck has been moved from the side to the front of the house, to allow for winter access to the deck, and the new deck is off the front of the house, so you can enjoy a better view - and the deck has grown in size 🥰

This view is why I chose the name, “Treetop Cottage”. 🌳 🏡 🌲🌲🌳

There has been A LOT of work happening at the cottage over the past six weeks. Some things you can see, some you won’t notice, but all are to keep my promise of continued improvements.

For our 4 legged guests - they now have a place to safely hang out by the fire pit, a 4x8’ kenneled area - plus a covered vestibule, with pea gravel footing. Now pups can safely join the fun, without the fear of running off into the woods at night, and without creating a tripping hazard by wrapping a tie out around the legs of the seating area 😬

There are also steps from the driveway up to the fire pit and solar lights, which were requested by a guest.

Calling all cyclists - mountain bikers, road bikers, boardwalk cruisers… Wakefield is a GREAT central, “hub”, for biking MILES of trails of all types (gravel, paved, single track) and more is coming!

Here is a nice paved trail that you can pick up in Ramsey and ride to Ironwood & back. If gravel is your thing, you can pick up the trail a mile south of Walefield and head east or west for even more miles!

Paved trails also include the Phillips-Connover trail, 40 miles away, and the Villas County trails, 25 minutes south.

Mtn biking includes the Miners Park and Wolverine trails in Ironwood, Copper Peak (closed for construction), WinMan, and if you want to venture a little further away - there are trails on the way to and in Houghton, and beyond in Copper Harbor!

The North Country Trail in Wisconsin is creating an opportunity to see Superior Falls that’s worth the 45 min drive to see!

Head over on a Friday, visit the trail, kayak from Saxon Harbor TO the falls, and stop for the fish fry on your way out of Saxon Harbor!

Right now, when the North Country National Scenic trail crosses from the U.P. into Wisconsin, it goes from trail to a road route.A recently completed land conservation project will get those hikers off the road and into a scenic stretch along the shores of Lake Superior in Iron County.

The new deck is going up, trees, shrubs, and perennials planted, and a few other improvements being done.

The cottage will be ready for rental the 2nd weekend in June, we hope to see you!

We had a few special guests at the cottage!

Knowing dogs are family, and most people are respectful guests (wipe off wet paws before coming inside and use brush your pets well before traveling), we keep the pet fee low to accommodate for one extra load of laundry for the furniture covers.

These 3 lovely competition “Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers” were recent guests and when they left, not a single hair or paw print was found! They are definitely welcomed back anytime!

A littermate of the guests can be seen at pet supply stores on Nutrena Feed’s, “Loyall” dog food bags, how exciting!
