A most unique retreat, standing today as it did over seven decades ago, changed only for comfort and safety, Wakulla Spring Lodge offers visitors a timeless glimpse into Florida’s pristine and elegant past. Considered a Florida architectural landmark, the Lodge has been on the grounds since 1937, and is featured, along with the nearly 6,000 acre park and river, on the National Register of Historic

Places. Surrounded by nature, including canopies of oak, hickory and beech trees, the natural spring, and Florida wildlife, the Lodge offers an old southern feel and a peaceful getaway for family vacations and reunions, weddings, anniversaries, conferences, and other special events. The Lodge also is a perfect retreat for artists, writers, or those that just want to “get away from it all." Guests will be inspired by nature’s beauty and serenity, not to be interrupted inside of any one of the 27 guest rooms, which overlook the spring, park and courtyard. In keeping with the Lodge atmosphere there are no televisions in the rooms. The Lodge itself showcases an American style popularized during the 1920s and 30s, which combines Mediterranean Revival and “art deco” motifs, including massive masonry and wrought iron grill work. There is also a lavish use of marble throughout the Lodge, as well as heart cypress wood and breathtaking decorative art work depicting wildlife scenes. Guests can also take advantage of all the activities the Wakulla Springs State Park has to offer, including swimming and snorkeling in the natural freshwater spring. Riverboat and glass bottom boat tours give nature lovers a unique glimpse at Florida wildlife, including alligators, turtles, manatees and more. Guests staying at the Lodge, and resaurant guests that enter the park after 5 p.m., will not be charged this fee.

Steam rising off the river at dusk. A porch full of low conversation. September moves slow here, and that's the whole point.

This month brings the return of our Fall Dinner Cruise on September 18th, a sunset ride down the Wakulla followed by a southern-style buffet back at the Lodge. Pasta Wednesdays keep rolling too, rotating between pesto, marinara, and alfredo all month long.

And if you're around in early September, don't miss Swift Night Out, thousands of chimney swifts spiraling into their roost at dusk, one of the park's quietest, strangest spectacles. Free with park admission.

Come slow down with us.

Three more things no one tells you about Wakulla Springs.

The spring is deep enough that divers have explored it for decades without ever fully mapping the bottom. The dining room recipes have barely changed since the 1930s. And the wildlife on the river tour genuinely doesn't care what time you show up.

Which one surprised you most?

What people say the first time they see the springs.

"Wait, it's actually that clear?" "I didn't expect it to be this quiet." "We're definitely coming back."

We hear some version of this almost every day.

What did you say the first time you saw it?

You never know what's going to surface next.

An otter here. A heron there. A gator sunning on the bank like it's been waiting for you. The wildlife on the Wakulla River doesn't perform on a schedule, it just shows up.

Every seat here is waiting for a "yes."

Rows lined up under moss draped oaks, a gazebo dressed and ready, the kind of quiet before a wedding starts to feel like anticipation instead of stillness.

This is what forever looks like at Wakulla Springs.
