Great work DC Police Union Lodge 2! Keep advocating for your membership!

🚨 Deferred Retirement Option Program (D.R.O.P.) Legislation Scheduled for Vote 🚨

On Tuesday, October 6, at 11:00 am, the DC Council will vote on Bill 26-0100 - the
Deferred Retirement Option Program Amendment Act of 2025.

This is a major development in the years-long effort to get this type of program implemented into MPD. Both the DC Police Union and the IAFF have worked tirelessly to get to this point.

If you’re not familiar with the concept, DROP programs allow employees to trigger their retirement three years before they actually separate from the department. Their retirement annuity then begins paying out into a savings account. Once the member finally separates, they receive both the accumulated DROP funds and their ongoing pension benefits.

The legislation will require it to pass two votes by the Council. The first vote will be held this Tuesday. Your Union Leadership team will be present. If the bill passes both votes, it will then need to be signed by the Mayor.

We will update members as the bill progresses through the the legislative process.
