Oak Orchard River & Lake Ontario Weekend Preview: Tournament Weekend — June 11th, 2026

Friday is the first leg of the King of the Oak tournament launching out of Point Breeze. Saturday and Sunday is the Orleans County Pro/Am. If you've been thinking about getting out on the Lake this weekend, you're going to be fishing alongside some of the best salmon anglers on Lake Ontario. That's not a bad problem to have.

Weather looks good for most of it. Friday sunny near 78°F. Saturday is the pick...sunny and pushing 81°F. Sunday pulls back to 73°F with rain moving in by afternoon. Come out Friday and Saturday!

The creek is running at 816 CFS right now with water temps at 78°F. She's high but the turbine channel below the dam is doing what it always does. Smallmouth are active in the warmer water. Stay off the dam at these flows... fish the bank.

Out on the Lake it's been a real strong bite. Local charters confirmed salmon and trout holding between 50 and 90 feet of water on a good spoon and meat rig bite... The tournament teams that dominated the Pro-Am last week were running 100 to 225 feet of water, targeting fish 50 to 75 feet down on a full meat program. Kings, cohos, steelhead and lakers all in the mix right here off Orleans County.

We still have boat rentals open for this weekend. If you want to lock one in, or need a captain give us a call right away to grab your spot. 585-682-3316

Rooms available this weekend too...book direct at captainscoveescape.com or call 585-682-3316.

Open 7 days a week, 7am–5pm. We're here when you need us. Stocked, licenses on site, cold beer, ATM in the store.

Oak Orchard River & Lake Ontario Fishing Report — June 9th, 2026

Scattered thunderstorms rolling through the evening with highs near 84°F. Wednesday has a few morning showers then clearing, high 79°F. Thursday showers end by midday, high 78°F. Friday looking rough with severe storm potential. Saturday is the day to be on the river... mainly sunny, high 75°F, only a 6% chance of rain. Plan your trip around Saturday.

River is running at medium flows right now with about 2 feet of visibility... solid turbine water pushing through the channel below the dam. Fishable. Smallmouth are active and this stretch stays in shape long after every other trib in Western New York has gone sideways. That's just what the Oak does.

Out on the Lake the salmon action off Orleans County right here at the Oak has been quietly excellent. Most of it isn't even making the reports because fishing pressure is still pretty light right now. Charters and rec anglers are marking good numbers of fish and bait in the mid depths east and west of Point Breeze. Kings, cohos, steelhead and lakers all showing up in the same spread. Depths of 100 to 250 feet have been most productive on large spoons and meat rigs run in the top 100 feet.

This is the window before it gets crowded. LOC Summer Derby starts June 27th. The guys who get here before the fleet shows up are the ones having the best days on the water.

Thinking about getting out on the Lake this summer but don't want to deal with trailering your own boat? We have rentals available and if you want a captain so you don't have to worry about the driving, we can set that up too. Give us a call and we'll get you on the books.

Our private boat launch and docks are open and good to go. Rooms available, book direct at captainscoveescape.com or call 585-682-3316. Open 7 days, 7am–5pm. Stocked, licenses on site, ATM in the store.

Oak Orchard River & Lake Ontario Weekend Preview: Sunday Is Your Day — June 4th, 2026

Here's the honest breakdown for the weekend.

Friday near 82°F and mostly cloudy... good day to get out, comfortable temps, light winds. Saturday has some rain in the forecast, highs around 75°F. Plan accordingly. Sunday is the pick... sunny, calm, low 70s. If you can only pick one day this weekend, pick Sunday.

River is running at medium flows with about 2 feet of visibility. Fishable. The turbine channel below the dam is holding shape like it always does when conditions get rough elsewhere. Smallmouth are active. Stop in and we'll tell you what's been moving off the counter this week.

Out on the Lake the king bite off Orleans County has been excellent. Kings in the 10 to 15 lb range, depths of 70 to 250 feet productive on large spoons and meat rigs. Browns and lakers mixed in. This is as good a stretch of Lake Ontario fishing as we've seen in years right here at the Oak.

Here's the thing about staying at Captain's Cove that most people don't figure out until they've done it once. Cold drinks in the store, grill on the deck overlooking the river, fire pit out back with the water right behind you. You don't have to go anywhere. Wake up, grab your gear, and you're fishing before the guys from Rochester are even on the highway.

Rooms available this weekend. Book direct at captainscoveescape.com or call for special requests 585-682-3316.

Open 7 days, 7am–5pm. Stocked, licenses on site, ATM in the store.

Oak Orchard River & Lake Ontario Fishing Report: Clear Water Found Right Here — June 2nd, 2026

Don't let the recent storms ruin your week on the water. While other local streams are completely flooded out right now... the Oak is holding its ground with steady fishable conditions.

The turbine channel below the dam is doing exactly what it always does... staying fishable while everything else around it goes sideways. Flows are at medium with about 2 feet of visibility right now. If you know where to stand you can find fish.

Out on the Lake it's resetting after the wind. Kings are back in 75 to 150 feet of water, halfway down on the spoon program. And CJO from Tightlines Charters just put a beautiful 38-inch, 23-pound lake trout on the board off the Oak on a cowbell setup at 90 feet. It is a textbook example of the incredible trophy fishery we have right out of our river.

June tournament season is officially here. The Skip Hartman Pro-Am out of Olcott runs June 5 and 6, and the LOC Summer Derby starts June 27. If you're fishing either one and want to spend your time on the water instead of driving to it, stay with us. You can reserve your room directly online to lock in your tournament dates before they fill up for 2026.

Oak Orchard River & Lake Ontario Weekend Preview: The Lake Is Your Best Bet This Weekend — May 28th, 2026

Shoutout to Tony Cutaia for this one. Was targeting White Perch and ended up hooking into this largemouth on a live worm and a tiny hook. That's fishing right there. Thanks for sharing Tony.

Now here's your weekend breakdown.

River is running high and muddy right now. One of our followers said it best in the comments this week... pure mud, less than a foot of visibility. The river needs a couple more days to settle out. Stay off the dam.

The Lake is where you want to be this weekend. Kings got pushed deeper by the south winds... sitting in 130 to 160 feet right now. Browns are still close to shore in 30 to 40 feet. Dreamweaver and Michigan Stingers NBK have been producing. Stop in before you head out and we'll tell you exactly what's been moving off the counter this week.

Weather is cooler than last week. Today mostly sunny, high near 66°F. Friday sunny to start with a slight chance of afternoon showers, high near 72°F... winds picking up to 18 mph with gusts near 30, so plan your launch accordingly. Saturday is the pick of the weekend... sunny, high near 63°F, light winds. Sunday mostly sunny, back up to 73°F.

Lake levels: Ontario still running high. Eyes open for debris if you're motoring out. Our private boat launch and docks are open and good to go.

Oak Orchard River & Lake Ontario Fishing Report: Rain's Done, Fishing is on — May 26th, 2026

River is slightly high right now but dropping and the water color is stained with about 2 feet of visibility. Flows are settling in nicely after the rain... actually good conditions for fish to hold wherever they want to be. Late dropback steelhead and brown trout are still showing up as they make their way back toward the Lake. Don't count them out yet.

Out on the Lake the action has been as good as anywhere on Ontario right now...and that includes right here at the Oak. Kings, cohos, browns, and lakers are all feeding. Charters running 80–120 feet have been putting 10–15 lb kings on the board with cohos mixed in and browns reaching into the teens in deeper water.

Stop in before you head out and ask at the counter... we'll tell you exactly what's been working and what to bring.

Weather is turning around fast. Today's rain clears out tonight. Wednesday mostly cloudy around 73°F. Thursday and Friday both mostly sunny, mid-70s. Good stretch of weather ahead.

Lake levels: Ontario still running high. Keep your eyes open for debris if you're motoring out. Our private boat launch and docks are open and good to go.

Oak Orchard River & Lake Ontario Weekend Preview: Kings Are Firing at the Oak — May 21st, 2026

Memorial Day weekend starts Friday and the timing couldn't be better. Partly cloudy around 68°F Friday... mostly sunny and low 70s Saturday... light winds all weekend. Three days of fishable weather over a long weekend. Load up and come down to the river.

River is high but fishable. Water temps are in the low 60s this week... smallmouth are on the move. Stay off the dam... flows are too strong to wade safely right now. Fish the bank below and you'll find them.

The big news is the Lake. King action right here at the Oak is as good as anywhere on Lake Ontario right now... don't let anyone tell you different. Charters are running 80–120 feet and putting 10–15 lb kings on the board with cohos mixed in. Mag spoons are on the move.

One serious heads up... Lake Ontario is hitting flood stage by tomorrow May 22nd. Our boat launch and docks are open and good to go but motor out with your eyes up. Debris is moving and the lake is not messing around right now.

We just switched from 5 to 7 lb ice bags. Same price as before. Grab one on your way out along with beer on deck. All Captain's Cove apparel is 25% off through Labor Day!!

Rooms available this weekend... 20% off your entire stay through the end of May with code FB2026STAY at captainscoveescape.com. Open 7 days, 7am–5pm. Stocked, licenses on site, ATM in the store. Boat rentals ready to go...call us about adding a captain. 585-682-3316

Oak Orchard River & Lake Ontario Fishing Report: She's Running Strong — May 19th, 2026

River is sitting at 835 CFS right now... well above normal for this time of year. Water temp hit 61.7°F, warmest it's been all spring. Water visibility is around 2 feet.

Wading at the dam is not recommended right now. Not a suggestion... the current is moving fast, the riverbed is unstable, and there are submerged drop-offs you can't see. Stick to the bank and designated shoreline access areas. Fish are there and you don't need to be in the water to get them.

That said the smallmouth bite is on. Water temp crossing 61°F is the switch. Work the shallow gravel edges and flats from the bank below the dam. Late dropback steelhead are still showing up for guys making good drifts but that window is closing fast.

Out on the Lake the bite has shifted. Browns have pushed to 50–60 feet. Lake trout and kings are out at 90 feet hammering mag spoons off riggers and divers. Lots of bait marked at the bottom in 100 feet. If you want bigger fish, that's where they are.

Stop in before you head out and ask at the counter. We'll put you on the right setup for whatever you're targeting.

Lake levels: Ontario still running high. Watch for floating debris if you're motoring out. Our private boat launch and docks are open and good to go.

Rooms available this week. Book direct at captainscoveescape.com with code FB2026STAY for 20% this month only. Open 7 days, 7am–5pm. Fully stocked, licenses on site, ATM in the store, beer on deck.

Oak Orchard River & Lake Ontario Weekend Preview: Sun's Out, Rods Out — May 15th, 2026

If you've been waiting for the right weekend to get out on the water, this might be it. Friday clearing up and pushing toward the mid-70s. Saturday is the pick of the weekend...low 70s, mostly sunny.

River is running high right now at 727 CFS but she's fishable. Water is actually very clear. Smallmouth are moving and the late steelhead dropbacks are still showing up near the dam for guys making the right presentations.

Out on the Lake it's been a real mixed bag around our waters... browns in tight, lakers at mid depth, and kings starting to show up more. Recent afternoon trip out of the Oak put 8 browns, 2 kings, and a couple 16-pound-plus lakers on the board. That's a good day by anybody's standards.

Lake levels: Ontario holding steady around 247.2 feet. It's high... keep an eye out for floating debris if you're motoring out. Our private boat launch and docks are open and good to go.

Rooms available this weekend 20% off with code FB2026STAY at captainscoveescape.com
