As we button up our primary home and head to our “summer home” , I’m excited—not just for our time at the lake, but for the families who will be staying here while we’re away.
Minnesota summers are made for the lake—fishing, kayaking, swimming—but what I hope our guests enjoy most are the quiet moments in between. There’s just a little more time in the day when you’re at the lake. I hope they soak it in and simply enjoy being together.
Some of my favorite memories from lake vacations with family are the simple ones—prepping meals, playing Rummy 500 (and actually hitting 500), and long evenings around the table.
I’ve tried to create a space that feels like home and vacation all at once. It always means a lot when guests mention the little things—the trucks their grandson loved, the fully stocked kitchen, morning coffee in the sunroom, or staying up too late playing games.
We’re looking forward to the next six weeks at our Madison Lake home, making memories of our own.
