Bird Watching during the Fall Migration

Bird migration is a remarkable natural phenomenon that offers incredible opportunities for birdwatchers. Twice a year, billions of birds embark on epic journeys, traveling thousands of miles between their breeding and wintering grounds. These periods, typically spring and autumn, are prime times for observing a diverse array of species that might not be present locally at other times.

Autumn Migration: Typically runs from August to November in the Northern Hemisphere, as birds move south for the winter. This period can feature more subdued plumages and a higher number of juvenile birds.

Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch is one of over 200 hawk watch sites in North America that is monitored by the Hawk Migration Association (HMA) and also supported by the Augusta Bird Club. The primary mission of Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch is to collect raptor count data during fall migration.

The 16th Annual Virginia Chili Blues & Brews Festival

presented by Wayne Theatre is returning to Downtown Waynesboro, and tickets are on sale now!

Join us on Saturday, September 12, 2026, beginning at 12:00 noon at Lumos Plaza for an exciting day of live blues music, hot chili, delicious food, artisan vendors, cold brews, and one of the region's most popular chili competitions.

The celebration begins Friday evening, September 11, 2026, with a free Pre-Festival Kickoff featuring live music at participating venues throughout Downtown Waynesboro. No tickets are required and there are no cover charges.

Bring your friends, register your chili, apply as a vendor or food truck, or become a sponsor. Every ticket and every entry fee helps support arts education through the Wayne Theatre.
