Did you know that most local vacation rental property management companies take direct bookings?

That's how we did it before VRBO and Airbnb. In fact, that's how Carolina Mountain Vacation Homes got started back in the 1990s!

People found us through word of mouth, called us directly, and booked their vacations with a real, local person. We even got the names and addresses of Maggie Valley visitors from the Chamber of Commerce, handwrote their addresses on envelopes, and mailed them brochures of our vacation homes. Talk about old school! 😂

Then the big booking platforms came along and somehow convinced travelers that they HAD to book through them.

YOU DON'T.

Booking through platforms like Airbnb and VRBO can add significant fees to the cost of your stay. In some cases, those platform fees can be around 15.5%. Think about that. You could be paying roughly 15.5% more just to book through a third-party website instead of booking the SAME HOME directly with the local company that actually manages it.

For what? Often, it's simply because the big platform feels familiar and "safe."

But when you're booking with an established, professional local property management company, you're already dealing directly with the people who manage the home, know the property, answer the phone, and will actually be there if you need something during your stay.

Before you book your next vacation rental, do a quick search. Find the local property management company and see if you can BOOK DIRECT.

And this isn't just about us. Do it EVERYWHERE you travel!

Skip the unnecessary middleman.
Avoid unnecessary platform fees.
Support small businesses.
Support local families.
Keep more of your vacation dollars in the community you're actually visiting.
