The Historic Wealthwood Hotel was opened In 1901 By Mary and John O'Fallon they had 4 children, Josifth, Walter, Emma, and John Jr.. They ran the hotel for many years. The loggers coming across Lake Mille Lacs headed north seeking employment would stay at the hotel. Back at the turn of the century there wasn't any trails around the lake, so they would have to take a 110' steam boat (Queen Anne) ac
ross and would land in Wealthwood. The town was formed under the assumption that the railroad would come from Mpls. around the north end of the lake and head toward Brainard. This didn't happen, It took the rout on the south end and Weathwood never grew to big. The trail (Hwy169) eventually was constructed and the hotel was failing. What do you do with a failing hotel around the prohibition years? And so they did. The Brothel ran for many years and was said to be visited by Al Capone. In the late 50's it became privately owned. The Schuler's purchased it in the early 70's until we bought it in the early 2000's. In 2013 Denise and I decided to bring it back to life... For the past 4 years we've been restoring it trying to keep the feel of the original Wealthwood Hotel. Though it is not in operation we sure do like visitors! Stop in and see us any time!
