Every December, actor Gary Sinise quietly does something most people never hear about. Through his Gary Sinise Foundation and its Snowball Express program, he brings more than 1,000 children of fallen military heroes, along with their surviving parent or guardian, to Walt Disney World in Orlando for a five day trip honoring the loved ones they lost.

The program began in 2006 after a fallen soldier left a letter asking that his family one day visit Disney if he didn't make it home. Sinise got involved in 2007, and his foundation took the program over in 2017. Thanks to sponsors like American Airlines, airfare, lodging, transportation, and most meals are covered for the families.

Each year includes a walk down Main Street to Cinderella's Castle, a concert from Sinise's Lt. Dan Band, and quiet time at a remembrance garden. Last December alone, more than 1,600 children and surviving spouses took part. For Sinise, the goal is simple: making sure these families never feel alone during the hardest time of year.
