It's time for your Week 3 Fall Foliage Report! 🍁🍂

While heavy rain knocked down some leaves, chilly nights recently sped up the color change in many Pennsylvania forests. The cooler weather expected this weekend will help bring out even brighter fall colors across the state.

With beautiful shades showing up everywhere now, it’s a great time to get outside and enjoy the stunning fall scenery in the Keystone State!

Looking for a quiet escape? Yellow Creek State Park in Indiana County offers calm waters, rolling hills, and room to breathe, while still offering the convenience many visitors want.

Park Manager James Tweardy appears on the latest Hemlocks to Hellbenders podcast to share what makes this peaceful refuge so special.

Wouldn’t it be nice to just get away from the crowds? To visit a park that’s not crammed with people, with their music, and their yapping dogs and all their other stuff. To experience some damn peace and quiet.Since the pandemic, outdoor spaces ha...

Be safe - be seen! Note the changes this year.

Have you heard about the changes this year?

New regulations require ALL state game lands users NOT engaged in hunting, trapping, or fishing to wear fluorescent orange from October 1 through January 31.

Users are required to wear a minimum of 250 square inches of fluorescent orange on head, chest, and back combined OR a fluorescent orange hat.

Here are some extra tips for enjoying state game lands this fall:

- If you have a pet with you, we highly recommend a vest, harness, leash, or bandana.

- Backpacks can limit your 360 degrees of visibility. Add a bandana or covering to your backpack to ensure you're seen.

- Even if you’re horseback riding, you’re REQUIRED to meet orange requirements, regardless of safety equipment being worn. It’s suggested to have orange on your horse as well.

Our goal is to ensure ALL users, hunters and non-hunters alike, are as safe as possible on state game lands 365 days a year!

For full details, check your 2026-27 Hunting & Trapping Digest or visit our website at bit.ly/PGCDigest.

As a reminder, be respectful when using public land as other outdoorsmen and women may be nearby. Be mindful of current open seasons and be aware of your surroundings.

Another great local investment. Many of our park visitors visit Cherry Springs while in the area.

DCNR recently completed $5.2 million in new improvements at Cherry Springs State Park, an International Dark Sky Park in Potter County.

The project helps drastically reduce light pollution to the sky viewing area while adding new parking entrances, EV chargers, a revamped programming area, infrastructure to support major events, and more. This major investment enhances visitor accessibility and safety while protecting the park’s world‑class dark skies — advancing the Commonwealth’s commitment to modern infrastructure, outdoor recreation, and sustainable public lands management.
