Going-to-the-Sun Road may be closed through the alpine section, but winter adventure is still waiting on Glacier’s West Side. ❄️🏔️

Begin in Apgar Village with a latte and fresh pie from Eddie’s Mercantile, browse seasonal gifts, then head to the Lake McDonald shoreline for snowy mountain views.

Weather and access permitting, continue toward Avalanche Creek and explore the 1.2-mile out-and-back route to Sacred Dancing Cascade and McDonald Falls. In winter, this may be a snowshoe rather than a traditional hike, with frozen scenery, turquoise water and beautiful views along McDonald Creek.

Check current NPS conditions and avalanche guidance, confirm business hours and bring warm layers, traction or snowshoes, water and emergency essentials.
