With Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Festival happening this weekend, we want to share materials on Olivia Records–the first independent le***an recording company that centered women producers, engineers, and artists in launching the women’s music movement.

Founded in 1973, Olivia Records was foundational in mail order record sales, distribution, and the promotion of women’s music. The company represented many artists who played at women’s festivals, as seen by the lineup in these photos!

With the lack of LGBTQ+ legal rights and protections in early years, founder Judy Dlugacz “suggests ‘We were reaching out to an audience that wanted to be found, but not necessarily identified’...The ambivalence Dlugacz describes could be seen at concerts, which as defiant mass gatherings, elicited emotions from fans about having to hide integral parts of themselves. We are excited to introduce a new program: Mazer’s Book Launch Salon. Curated and led by Simone Wallace, co-founder/co-owner of Sisterhood Bookstore, continuing her decades long work of bringing writers and readers together.

The first event will take place Sunday, October 25th at 2pm and feature brief readings by the authors along with an opportunity for attendees to purchase their books.

Many women in our Mazer Community are writers — publishing their work both traditionally and independently — and we want to celebrate them!

The June L. Mazer Le***an Archives will be hosting a zine-making and collage night at next Thursday, July 23rd in collaboration with !

Toolbox D**e is a platform and ongoing project that centers QTBIPOC through the showcase of art and lives of le***ans - past, present, and future. From an art show to a zine publication to community events, Toolbox represents a diverse lens of le***an experiences.

With a mutual mission of holding space for le***ans and q***r people alike to exist and connect, we are excited to share this event with you all during a very special month celebrating the histories of our community.

We will supply all materials, come enjoy an evening with us and bring a friend! 🖌️🎨
