, Roberta Yoder, as she dreamed of owning a bed and breakfast for many years. It was her husband that suggested they look at this little bungalow in the heart of historic West Liberty. When they toured it, they fell in love with the deep mahogany woodwork, original built-in cabinets and front porch swing. With the VRBO and Airbnb travel taking off, this seemed like an opportunity to take advantage of, plus satisfy the hospitality dream. Renovations began in the spring of 2016 and included a complete redo of the bathroom, updated electric with wired smoke detectors, new tile and flooring in the kitchen and new paint throughout the house. The last major decision was to pull up the plush carpet with the hopes that the original hardwood flooring was in good shape. (Roberta kept peeking under edges of carpet to get a peek and it looked very promising.) And now the beautiful refinished hardwood floor is one of the best features of the house. The bungalow was built around 1928 and that era became the overall theme of the house during renovations and decorating. Throughout the house you will find glimpses of Roberta’s past plus treasured finds from local antique stores and flea markets. The dressing table and dresser belonged to her grandparents, and the room includes photos of these cherished family members. Framed in the dining room are samples of Roberta’s collection of sheet music from her great grandmother. Friends have also contributed to the collection with furniture, glassware and other mementos of that time frame. This little bungalow has become a sanctuary for Roberta, and it can be yours as well.
