We also participate in track day racing events!
Having first hand experience racing at different circuits in (rain, damp, cold, and dry conditions),
and surfaces painted using various coatings (parking lot paint, traffic paint, house paint, epoxy, traction paints etc.).
YES, there really is a difference in handling, control, driver confidence, and safety, when it comes to interacting with painted racetrack surfaces and lines.
When conditions are less than ideal (damp/wet)
Standard coatings ARE slip-skid HAZARDS, due to surface being smooth. It is like driving on ice.
Traction coatings and FIA-FIM paints on the other hand, provide a texture for tires to grip and maintain contact/control in almost all conditions.
Traction paints become an added layer of safety & control that motorsport circuits should utilize.
