Our family took an out of state trip to VA late October/early November 2025 for our son’s wedding. Our stay at the Sunrise Tides river retreat home was incredible! The house was very accommodating for our group of 9 (4 adults, 3 teens, a pre-teen, and an 8 year old). The home was very well maintained, clean, and the river views were breathtaking.
The house layout is great. The kid bunk room is attached to the home, but the design allows for play, talk, and visiting in the bunk room to be virtually unheard when you’re in the master bedroom. This made for more peaceful and uninterrupted sleep. The large bay windows in the master bedroom were also fantastic with very inviting views of the serene horizon. Having multiple full bathrooms was a very nice feature, especially on wedding day morning!
During our stay, our son and his fiance visited for dinner. We played games and met in person with our daughter in-law for the first time. We LOVED the basketball game in the garage and the foosball table in the bunk room. The kids loved the boardgame, Catan. We had an uproariously fun time and the home created a fun, safe, and beautiful environment for all of us to meet, bond, and make lasting memories together. When our son and his fiance stayed with us for a night, all eleven of us slept comfortably in the large home.
It was pleasant to arrive to have all the bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchen clean. The refrigerator was clean and when we arrived with loads of groceries and lots of luggage, we found the whole home was prepared nicely and was very inviting. Ruby even had a lovely card and some welcome goodies on the kitchen counter which were a classy and nice personal touch.
We knew from previous reviews that we really wanted to enjoy the sunrise during our stay. We made it a point to enjoy those early morning hours and it was worth it! The dock and water access made for exciting exploration, beautiful photographs, and was a fun and peaceful nature experience.
When our son came to visit, he spent some quiet time with his bible and coffee near the dock while fish were regularly surfacing to eat insects and made gentle splashes in the water.
I used the Blackstone grill to make massive quantities of bacon each morning for breakfast and to make hamburgers for our large crew for lunch. The Blackstone was an incredible time saver and kept the kitchen way cleaner during meal prep.
We definitely recommend the Sunrise Tides river retreat home. We only wish we had more time to enjoy the house, river recreation, and more of the local restaurants.
