Much like the "New Plebes" performing close-order drill in 1905, just over 20 days from now, on Reception Day (R-Day), the New Cadets of the West Point Class of 2030 will be learning how to march ("drill").

Fourth of July Weekend - features an incredible ceremony, live West Point Band concert, New Cadets Marching into Trophy Point where spectators (and families) cheer them on, all followed by fireworks over the Hudson River. Some parents are thrilled for a sneak peek of their new cadets being part of this incredible patriotic ceremony.

March Back & Reorganization Week - features an opportunity for families to join the West Point community along the March Route on West Point as the New Cadets March back (their capstone event and end of their Cadet Basic Training). The Class Motto is revealed. Parents stay for a few nights, enjoy a delicious pre-fixed menu at The Thayer's MacArthur's Riverview Restaurant, and many stay a few extra days (working remotely) and exploring the Hudson Valley and learning more about West Point.

Acceptance Day Weekend - features an inspiring parade when the New Cadets are accepted into the Corps of Cadets as Plebes, and then the Plebes can spend time with their families over the weekend).

Plebe Parent Weekend - features insider tours, opportunities to go to classes with your cadet, a formal banquet and the reveal of their Class Crest.

On this day in 1926, June 3, the officially opened with a gala banquet. The menu included chicken gumbo, brook trout, roast chicken, Saratoga chips (homemade potato chips), & ice cream with strawberries. An orchestra entertained dignitaries & speeches were delivered. Look for an article by me later this summer in the AOG’s West Point magazine. This photo of the lobby is from an article published in 1926. The lobby had more natural light then because some windows have now been removed for expansion. The architectural style is Tudor Gothic. Share a Thayer memory below.
