🚜 CAT machine giving you trouble?

We wrote this one because we hear it all the time: “Do I really need to haul this thing somewhere, or can someone just come look at it?”

A lot of the time, we can come to you.

If your Caterpillar skid steer, mini excavator, compact track loader or other machine is out of warranty and acting up, a mobile mechanic can often save you a bunch of waiting around — especially if it’s something like hydraulics, fuel issues, electrical problems, undercarriage trouble or general wear-and-tear.

The dealer still has its place, especially for warranty work and certain locked-down computer stuff. But for a lot of everyday breakdowns, you may not need to wait weeks or move the machine off-site.

We broke it all down here in plain English:

Serving Topsham, Bradford, Barre, Montpelier, Randolph, the Upper Valley and the small towns in between.

When a CAT machine goes down in Central Vermont, you've got two real choices. You can tow it to the authorized Caterpillar dealer in Richmond, or you can call an independent mobile mechanic and have them come to you. Both are real options. Both win in different situations. And the honest truth, even...

Diesel prices are no joke right now 😅

If you’re running a skid steer, mini excavator, compact track loader or anything else that burns fuel around Central Vermont this spring, it’s worth knowing what that machine is actually costing you by the hour.

We put together a quick local breakdown on fuel burn, idle time, bidding jobs and when renting might make more sense than owning.

Good one to read before the next driveway, septic, farm or clearing job.

Read it here:

Diesel won't stop climbing. The U.S. national average for on-road diesel is hovering around $5.62 a gallon as of mid-May, and Vermont retail typically runs a dime or two above that. Compare that to early January, when the Vermont Agency of Transportation posted average diesel at $4.02. That's a 35 t...

Not every job needs the biggest Bobcat on the lot!!!

For most driveway grading, landscaping, post-hole digging, brush work and weekend property projects in Central Vermont, the right machine depends on the access, ground conditions, trailer setup and attachment you need.

We put together a simple Bobcat sizing guide for Vermont homeowners, farmers and contractors trying to figure out whether they need a mini skid steer, mid-size skid steer, compact track loader or larger CTL.

Good fit if you’re working around Topsham, Bradford, Randolph, Montpelier, Barre, the Upper Valley or nearby towns and want to rent the right size machine the first time.

Need help choosing? Call Peakline Rental & Repair at (802) 789-9168. We deliver across Central Vermont and the Upper Valley.

A lot of the rental calls we get start with "I think I need a Bobcat for the weekend." That's a fine place to start. But "a Bobcat" covers everything from a 1,500-pound walk-behind to a 12,000-pound compact track loader with a forestry mulcher on the front. The right pick depends entirely on what yo...

Dreaming about building on raw land in Vermont? 🌲🏡

There’s a lot that happens before the pretty part: clearing, grading, access roads, drainage and plenty of mud-season surprises.

We wrote a quick blog on what folks should think about before getting started here in Central Vermont.

Need equipment or mobile diesel repair around Topsham, Barre, Bradford, Montpelier or Randolph? Give Peakline a shout. 🚜

A stretch of land. Woods at the edges. A view, or at least the possibility of one. Maybe a rough field, maybe an old stone wall, maybe a brook somewhere on the property that makes the whole thing feel inevitable. The mind fills in the rest quickly: a house set just right, a driveway where it needs t...

Fun Vermont fact: 100 years ago, about 75% of Vermont was cleared for pasture, timber & farming. Today, it's the opposite: about 80% is forest.

Explains why so many old stone walls now seem to run straight through the woods. Pretty wild when you think about it.

Around here, the landscape still tells the story. 🌲🪨

If you want to understand the working character of Central Vermont, start in Barre — not in the abstract idea of Barre, but in the granite itself. Barre became the center of Vermont’s granite industry, and Millstone Hill remains one of the clearest physical records of that history, with quarry w...

There’s a reason Central Vermont feels the way it does 😃

Before Interstate 89, before Route 302 carried people east toward Maine, and long before trucks were moving equipment up and down Route 14, these roads were something else entirely — dirt paths, turnpikes, and stage routes connecting small towns trying to grow.

Over time, they became the backbone of the region.

We put together a new blog digging into how these roads shaped Central Vermont — and how they still do today 🚛🚛

If you’ve ever driven them daily, worked along them, or built something because of them, you’ll probably see the region a little differently after reading this.

🔗 Take a look:

Central Vermont has never been a place where movement came easily. Long before Interstate 89 cut a clean line through Middlesex, Waterbury, Bolton, and Richmond, the region depended on narrower corridors shaped by rivers, hills, and stubborn necessity. The Winooski River valley became one of the ear...

There’s nothing worse than when a machine goes down right in the middle of a job!!

Around here in Central Vermont, that usually doesn’t mean “schedule it for next week”… it means you need it fixed today.

That’s exactly why we put this together — a simple, real-world guide on Caterpillar equipment repair and what actually works when you don’t have time to haul your machine to a dealer.

We wrote this based on what we see every day:
• hydraulic hoses blowing at the worst time
• cold-start and electrical issues
• fuel and cooling problems during mud season
• machines that just need service before they turn into bigger problems

Most of the time, getting a local mobile mechanic out to you is faster, simpler, and keeps the job moving without the extra downtime

If you’re working anywhere around Montpelier, Barre, Bradford, Randolph, or the surrounding towns — this is for you.

As always, if something goes down, we’ll come to you 👍

If you need CAT equipment repair in Central Vermont, the question is usually not whether the machine can be fixed. It is how fast you can get it back to work.

Most folks don’t think about it this way, but where you rent your equipment actually matters.

When those dollars leave Central Vermont… they usually don’t come back.

We put together a quick read on why keeping it local ends up saving you more in the long run — not just money, but time, reliability, and support when you need it most.

Take a look 👇

In Central Vermont, renting equipment is not just about who has a machine available. It is about who can actually support your job when plans change, delivery gets tight, or something goes wrong.

We built our mobile diesel service for exactly this. We’ll come right to your job site and keep you moving.

Every Vermont contractor knows the feeling. The ground softens, projects restart, and the machine that sat all winter suddenly decides not to cooperate.
