Around here, the right machine really depends on the job. A smaller excavator might be perfect for backyard access or landscaping, while a 5–6 ton machine is usually the better fit for bigger dig work like septic or foundation projects.

Skid steers get most of the attention, but the mini excavator is the most versatile machine you can put on a Vermont property. It digs, it lifts, it grabs, it pulls stumps, it works in spaces a full-size machine can't get into, and it doesn't tear up the ground anywhere near as much as a skid steer....

🚜 CAT machine giving you trouble?

We wrote this one because we hear it all the time: “Do I really need to haul this thing somewhere, or can someone just come look at it?”

A lot of the time, we can come to you.

If your Caterpillar skid steer, mini excavator, compact track loader or other machine is out of warranty and acting up, a mobile mechanic can often save you a bunch of waiting around — especially if it’s something like hydraulics, fuel issues, electrical problems, undercarriage trouble or general wear-and-tear.

The dealer still has its place, especially for warranty work and certain locked-down computer stuff. But for a lot of everyday breakdowns, you may not need to wait weeks or move the machine off-site.
