A getaway doesn’t have to mean going far.

The Captain Stannard was featured on Great Day Connecticut for Staycation Week, and we couldn’t agree more.

Sometimes the best escape is right here on the Connecticut Shoreline.

Walk to the beach. Slow mornings on the porch. Explore Westbrook, wander the shoreline, find a great dinner, then come back to an inn that feels like part of the getaway.

Your next vacation might be closer than you think.

Watch our Great Day Connecticut feature, then start planning your Westbrook staycation.

August always goes fast here. It always has.

Between the deck, the lawn, the rooms, and the beach just a short walk from the front door, this house has hosted a hundred small versions of summer and we're already looking forward to doing it again next year.

If you haven't made it down yet, there's still time before the season turns. And if you have, thank you for being part of another good one.

August has a way of slowing down right before it ends.

This is 7:12pm on the Portside deck the exact minute the light turns gold and nobody's in a hurry to go anywhere. No agenda. No notifications.

This is the part of the trip nobody posts about, but it's the part you remember.

One block from the beach. Every room, its own reason to stay.

Staying somewhere with this much history is a different kind of trip.

It's not always perfectly matched trim or brand-new everything, it's better than that.

It's real. We've owned and cared for this building since it was ours to protect.

Would you rather stay somewhere brand new, or somewhere with a past?

Some guests do not book a room here. They book the same weekend, every year.

There is a specific kind of guest who returns to Captain Stannard for the same August weekend, year after year, without needing a reminder.

That kind of loyalty is not something we ask for. It is something the farmhouse just seems to earn.

Book your stay and see if this becomes your weekend too.

Sunday mornings have a rhythm of their own. The coffee’s slower. The conversations wander. Nobody’s checking a watch, and if they are, they’re doing it wrong.

That’s the mood Captain Marcus had in mind when he built this one. Not a quick fix for a rough night a proper brunch companion. The kind of drink that sits with you while the stories get longer and the table doesn’t turn over for another hour.

He made it bold. Then he made it bolder. Somewhere between the second and third test batch, it stopped being a recipe and started being a reputation. Regulars don’t order “a Bloody Mary" anymore. They ask for the Captain’s.

A record's worth of sound carrying across the farmhouse before the evening even starts.

Ice in a glass.

A door easing shut behind someone heading outside.

Captain Stannard holds onto small sounds most places rush past.

Book your stay and notice them for yourself.

Some evenings here end with a board game, not a bar tab.

Captain Stannard keeps things simple.

Puzzles on the table, board games ready to go, and a farmhouse atmosphere built for connection instead of noise.

Book your stay and spend an evening the old fashioned way.
