Another cabin detail finished. 🛶

We turned this old wooden canoe into an art piece for the gable and used old farm pulleys and rope to hoist it into place. We love finding ways to give old pieces a new purpose in the cabin.

She looks pretty good up there… but based on her current condition, I don’t recommend putting her in the Missouri River. 😂

We’ve been busy these past few weeks getting appliances installed and ordering furniture. The kitchen is coming together, and I’m loving how the vintage stove looks with the green cabinetry and log walls.

One more room is starting to come to life.

This bathroom has been years in the making, and seeing all of the natural elements come together is incredibly rewarding.

Every piece was chosen to feel like it belonged in the cabin—not just placed in it.

It’s amazing how a simple sketch can become something you can finally stand back and admire.

Most people will only see the finished staircase.

They won’t see the hundreds of hours behind it.
The trial and error.
The sawdust.
The problem-solving.
Or the countless conversations from our “thinking chairs.”

Those two old camping chairs became headquarters for this build. We’d sit, stare at the staircase, talk through ideas, then get back to work.

Today we finally stepped back and realized…

It’s done.

The spiral staircase is complete, with hand-shaped treads wrapped around a massive log and Mountain Laurel branches woven into every railing.

Worth every minute. 🌲

Sneak Peek… 👀

The loft railings are finally coming together, and they’re becoming one of my favorite features in the cabin.

We wanted something that felt like it belonged in the woods—not something you could buy off the shelf. The combination of white oak and natural branches is exactly what we were hoping for.

This week we started laminating ¼-inch Missouri white oak strips to create the curved handrails for the spiral staircase and loft.

We’re pretty sure we borrowed every clamp in town. 😂

7 steps in, 9 more to go… and somehow we’re still surviving the geometry. 😅

The spiral staircase is finally looking like a staircase instead of a math problem. Lots of sawdust, sweat, and second guesses—but we’re making progress. 🪵🌀🏡
