Before a group arrives, I spend as much time thinking about who is coming as about how the table will look.
Some groups want the good glassware and the linen and a long slow dinner. Some want daisies in a jar and everyone reaching across each other. I have set this same table both ways in the same week, and neither one was more correct.
The question I am really asking is how I can create a table for them. Not a general idea of what a guest might like. Them. What would they love?
Then the details do the talking. A napkin with some weight to it. Water already poured. A chair facing the trees.
That is the whole of it. Pay attention first, then respond. What I hope people feel when they sit down is not impressed. Considered, and cared for.🌲
