There are at least 35 named glaciers in Glacier National Park (U.S.). At the end of the Little Ice Age about 1850, the area containing the national park had 150 glaciers. There are 25 active glaciers remaining in the park today.

Glacier is closed due to winter weather on the Westside at Avalance Creek. You can drive as far up as Jackson Glacier on the Eastside.

Glacier National Park Status

Currently there is a fire impacting the west side of the park. The entire east side of the park is open and the Going-to-the-Sun Road is open from St. Mary to Logan Pass. With a little flexibility and some pre-trip planning visitors can still enjoy much of what Glacier has to offer.
