Call on the House to pass the DEFIANCE Act ❗

Paris Hilton, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and other activists and lawmakers gathered at the Capitol last week to urge the House to pass the bipartisan DEFIANCE Act. If passed, the DEFIANCE Act would allow victims of non consensual sexual AI deepfakes to sue creators and distributors for damages. There have been growing calls to pass the act after Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok was used to generate and post over 1.8 million nonconsensual intimate images of women over the course of nine days in December.

AI deepfakes disproportionately harm women, with many women politicians and public figures being targeted. Ocasio-Cortez and Hilton have both been targets of AI deepfake po*******hy, with Hilton having over 100,000 nonconsensual sexually explicit deepfakes of her circulated online. This technology has been weaponized to degrade women and girls, and perpetrators need to be held accountable.

The DEFIANCE Act has united women across party lines and received broad bipartisan support. It has already been approved unanimously by the Senate, and now moves to the House for the next vote. As the bill moves forward, it is imperative that we continue the push for women and girls to be protected from digital violence.
